High stakes. High standards. Low reserves.
Designers are often celebrated for what they create, but rarely supported in how they sustain it.
Behind the accolades and output is a quieter truth:
Even the most celebrated creatives feel the strain of constant delivery.
The drive to keep producing fresh, ground-breaking ideas.
The fear of losing the spark.
Many Royal Designers shared a familiar pattern:
They were brilliant at expressing & creating, but struggled to sustain & motivate.
Their work demanded by the world is not always rooted in themselves.
What we did
A somatic deep-dive into creative sustainability.
Facilitated by Shaun Brooking, the session posed a powerful question:
“Do you have a body, or are you a body?”
This question acted like a catalyst for a powerful event. It allowed the designers to go much deeper into their creative intelligence, exploring how their creativity lives in the body—how it’s sensed, processed, and expressed.
This wasn’t your average design talk.
We combined:
- Nervous system insights to understand the body’s role in creativity.
- Somatic practices to ground attention and restore presence.
- Sensory priming tools to activate embodied awareness and take in more data through the senses, supporting intuition, insight, and creativity.
- Simple nervous system resets that help the body become more receptive, turning it into an instrument for inspiration and creative flow.
- Storytelling and inquiry to surface unseen patterns that shape creative behaviour.
Together, we explored what it means to lead, design, and express from a place of full embodiment, rather than just to meet the creative deadlines & external pressures.
What changed?
Participants left with more than insights. They walked away with:
-
A clearer sense of their internal drivers.
-
New language for creative sustainability.
-
A deeper connection to rest: not as indulgence, but as a foundation for creativity.
-
The ability to tap into embodied awareness as a source of insight, accessing more ‘creative data’ simply by tuning in.
-
The experience of breaking habitual patterns through physical shifts, tiny embodied acts of permission that sparked new ways of thinking.
-
The permission and tools to create from a deeper, more authentic embodied sense of self.
Imagine this for your team
If your team lives in the high-pressure world of creative delivery—this kind of embodied inquiry might be the most important conversation they’re not having.
Because creative longevity isn’t about keeping up.
It’s about coming home to yourself.
